Samantha Scott, a Lecturer in Special Education, shares her career journey from the classroom to the lecture hall.
Clemson University
I was inspired to go into the field of special education by my younger brother, who has both physical and intellectual disabilities.
I studied Special Education as an undergraduate at Clemson University and then taught for eight years in the classroom. I taught within a range of placements and students with a range of disabilities. I also worked towards receiving my Master's in Literacy and ESOL from Furman University and Western Governors' University. After eight years, I left the classroom to pursue a PhD from Clemson University in Special Education. I served as a research assistant in this role and helped to develop a writing intervention for students with disabilities or at-risk. Now I work at Clemson University within the Special Education department, teaching undergraduate students how to be effective special educators.
Helping undergraduates to strengthen their passion and confidence in working with individuals with disabilities. I love contributing to the development of advocates for inclusive education!
