To apply for your license, you need the following:
Official university transcripts posted
Praxis exams passed and scores sent to Indiana Department of Education
Suicide prevention training completed
CPR/AED/Heimlich certification completed
Apply on the LVIS website by submitting required documentation and paying a fee of $35
Licenses are approved in LVIS by your education preparation program’s licensing advisor

Transition to Teaching programs are designed to enable those who already hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution to more easily transition to education without requiring an additional degree.

The Alternative Special Education License is available for applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree and who are enrolled in a post-baccalaureate-approved alternative preparation program (including Transition to Teaching) for initial special education licensure or for a special education addition to an existing license. An application for this license must be submitted through the applicant’s online LVIS account. Applicants for this license must be employed in Indiana as a classroom teacher in the special education area of the preparation program. This license is also available to applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree, are employed in Indiana as a special education teacher, and have completed an approved special education licensure program but require additional time to pass the required licensure tests.

The Indiana Special Education Assisted Licensure (I-SEAL) initiative is designed to increase the number of qualified special education teachers in Indiana by providing financial assistance and streamlining coursework for Indiana teachers to earn special education licensure. I-SEAL funds post-baccalaureate programs of study that enable teachers to become fully licensed to teach special education for a public school in Indiana.

ASSET is an approved alternative licensure Transition to Teaching program through IDOE and the Indiana State Board of Education. The Indiana Council of Administrators of Special Education (ICASE) offers ASSET for licensed Indiana educators to add a special education teaching credential. Completing the ASSET program and passing the appropriate licensing exams enable educators to add either the Mild or/and Intense Interventions endorsement to their existing license.
