There are three educator license levels.
Professional - All of the requirements have been met and competencies demonstrated.
Background check and ethics review
Content knowledge competency
Completed educator preparation program
Associate - A minimum number of requirements have been met and/or competencies demonstrated.
Background check and ethics review
Bachelor's Degree (completed or enrolled)
Content knowledge competency
Complete Utah State Board of Education pedagogical modules
Local Education Agency (LEA) Specific - Under direction of the local governing boards of school districts or charters.
Background check and ethics review
LEA Board must apply on behalf of educator
LEA must create a personalized educator support plan
LEA must post percentage of assignment with educators on LEA-specific license area or endorsements

The Utah State Board of Education offers an alternate route to licensure: Alternate Pathway to Professional Educator License (APPEL).
